Don't Drink the Milk

Now I'm not talking about glitching like we all did in L4D expert, but what achievement are you most proud of, or the hardest one you have got? Mine came last night. This achievement almost made me break several things. I actually had to ask my daughter to leave the room because I didn't want to scare her with the nerd rage that was coursing through my veins.

Game: Call of Duty World at War
Level: Their land, Their Blood
Difficulty: Veteran
Actual difficulty: Impossible -1

On a map that takes 15 minutes to pass on easy, I spent an hour and a half and died approximately 60 times. If you legitimately got this achievey, you have my respect. I lost a piece of my soul on that level.

I think I'm probably most proud of getting a complete 1500/1500 on Borderlands. The General Knoxx expansion on playthrough two was probably the most difficult thing I've ever done in a game. Like Red, I was ready to break my controller on this one multiple times. Wiggles called me at one point and refused to get off the phone because he was having so much fun listening to me bitch about it.
Aside from how difficult that was, I'm also proud of actually haing completed the Mad Moxxi DLC. That was a WoW level grind right there.
I couldn't even get through the gate on General Knoxx. I gave up. My guns weren't good enough, and apparently my armor wasn't either. I died countless times on that.
Now that you mention it, I cant say there is any achievement that makes me proud, but by far the funnest achievement for me was when we glitched L4D and still had to finish that last part on Expert... I remember, I think it was Zoid,Me,Chegs,Bigbird and we were in the top of the barn and as we all know that shit was very tense... I think zoid had it and he took one for the team me and Chegs ran right for the truck jumped on at the last second only to see bigbird get caught by a Smoker and get dragged off... Now this was all something we worked our ass of for and bigbird damn near cried when he didnt get it....I dont think he ever got it.. Best achievement moment by far..
Way to pay attention. Re-read the first sentence.

I don't think there is an achievement that I have that I am really proud of. If an achievement proves to be too challenging then I just don't go for it. I can't stand the rinse and repeat that goes along with grinding that out.
Ultimately it's all worthless, I'll give you that. I like the challenge. It makes the game feel more complete. There is a sense of accomplishment, even if it's only video game related and really means nothing in the long run.

I wish I could take a more casual approach to gaming such as yourself. It would make things much easier and probably enjoyable in a different sense. However, my OCD's are the worst on video gaming. Things just don't feel right unless I get a certain amount of achievements, or at least beat the game, or whatever goal I set on each game individually.

Ditto. I've resigned myself to the fact that at this point, achievements and fun are tied inextricably together for me. If I don't meet my own arbitrary goal, I don't enjoy myself. I certainly wouldn't mind being able to just play games through without ever once worrying about the achievements, but anymore that's just not how I play.
I know what you mean about those OCD feelings towards ahcievements. It doesn't feel like I have "completed" a game or got my money's worth unless I unlock at least 500 points. It bugs the shit out of me that I only have 245 points for COD WAW but my only other option was grinding out vetran. I tried it but it didn't take long before I wasn't having fun anymore so that was the end of that. I couldn't stand having COD WAW and its 245 points sitting on my shelf mocking me for my lack of incompletion so I sold the bitch. My casual approach these days is a result of work and home life. I can find so little time these days to game that I'm happy just sitting down and having fun. If I unlock an achievement then thats even better.

Yeah, that's what happened to me on Cod W@W too. 500 was my goal. I reached it. Now my fucking OCD kicked into overdrive and I want 700. 700 is my usual happy with target. I tried to write off W@W, but it's killing me.

I ruin gaming for myself.
