Considering alot of us are on Steam thought we needed a thread for all things steam. There is a shit ton of games on there, and if there is any you recommend then please post them here I am always wanting to check out new shit. Also if there is any good deals you think is worth mentioning then post it. I recently got Torchlight for $20 and one helluva game.

SO I have played the Medal of Honor Beta for the Xbox and PC now and man, could it be anymore of the SAME OLD SHIT, it is obvious

That's the state of the FPS market in general. Same shit, different year.

Re-skins is about all they can do. You can't re-invent the FPS genre. All you can do is make a better story. Same goes with everything though. RPG, RTS, whatever one you want to choose. L4D is just a better version of Resident Evil. Age of Empires is a better version of Red Alert. WoW is a better version of every game on the market.

No genre is being invented now a days. They are all re-skins. I think the market is just saturated with FPS and the consumers are finally tiring of them. But the argument of "same shit different year", well that applies to every single genre of gaming. When it boils down to it, Cataclysm will be same shit different year. However, I'm still excited about it.

Not that I'm trying to defend FPS. I can't even think of the last time I played one.

To be fair, WoW is a re-skin of Everquest. I just wonder when that ceiling will be hit and games can't get any better.

Hmmm. I would say yes and no. Warcraft in general was before Everquest, but not the MMO version of Warcraft. If anything, I would say WoW is a re-skin of Ultima Online. I won't swear to it, but I'm fairly sure Ultima was the first big time fantasy MMO. It was out in the mid 90's. I played it. It sucked.

However, your point of Warcraft being a re-skin is valid. But like some other re-skins, it is currently the best in it's class. It has set the standard that other MMO's can't reach. Everquest might have stood a chance, but Sony does not update and support it. Sony sells electronics. They don't give a shit about EQ and that's why WoW ultimately won. Blizzard sells video games.

All of this just proves my point. At it's core, nothing coming out is new. It's all "same shit different year". It just looks better, has a better story, maybe has some new features or something, but it's still an upgrade of an existing product.

Maybe, but WoW went a long way to make things accessible and make the game playable on a schedule, while EQ was a huge time hog that required way too much free time. A lot of MMOs now try to rip off WoW, so WoW must have done something right. Every FPS I've played in the last 3 years (especially military themed ones) just seem to run together. Bioshock is one of the few FPS games I've played recently that feels unique, though it was an iteration on things that had been done before in System Shock and Deus Ex.

I don't know if they're completely tapped out for ideas, but there does have to be something new and exciting no one has thought up yet. The last completely new genre I can think of is music games, which started becoming popular at the end of the PS2 era, but they got their start in the PS1 era, and today even they're oversaturated.

The steam give away is awesome. It says if you are picked you get the top ten games on your wish list for free and they are doing this daily from what I understand. I went and added a bunch of expensive games to my list, now I wonder if that hurts my probability even tho they claim it's random?

And there is a catch, every day you have to visit the Daily special page, not buy anything, just click on the daily specials and one of those will have a prompt that enters you into the give a way. I went ahead and played the Free Brink, and was pleasantly surprised so I went ahead and bought it. I think any fan of TF2 can find their worth in this one for just 5bucks.
