Title: Gears of War 3
Developer: Epic Games
Publisher: Microsoft Studios
Platform: Xbox 360 Exclusive
Submergence Day
Any "to the core" Gears fan has been waiting for this. Hype has been a building and tension has been brimming. When we last left Marcus and Delta Squad, Jacinto had been sunk in a complete 180* turn to prevent it's sinking (Logic!) to wipe out the Locust. This after utilizing the most destructive weapon, The Hammer of Dawn, in a last ditch effort to turn the tide. It failed. This all in turn wound up coinciding with the mutated Locust threat, The Lambent aka Glowies. These baddies are essentially feral Locust that explode (Hooray!!). So, with the Locust supposedly flooded in the remnants of Jacinto, Marcus and the gang have been laying low on barges waiting for the moment to strike back. That moment is here.
"Brothers To The End(?)"
In terms of finishing off a trilogy with a bang, so far, it's living up to the hype. Right off the bat, in my honest opinion, Sera is dead. There's no way off with all they've destroyed and little chance of rebuilding. At least an entire civilization. I feel we're going to see one somber depressing ending but that's still up in the air. I would just prefer a realistic ending, long-term view. That being said, the game so far is full of flashbacks and recalls of the past. The opening 1st Act is set up in a nice "two points meet in the middle" effect. One reason I'm considering a full on cast kill, is due to some of the recalling moments. There's an amazing CG and interactive scene that has one of the team reliving his glory days and manochevitz is it a BALL! Seriously, it's a simplistic but badass moment. WHOOOOO! Being only halfway through the campaign, there are still known characters I've not run into yet or spent much time with. Hoping this levels out the playing field later on.
"Carmine Must ____"
First, I wanted him to die. Let the man be with his brothers. The first Carmine, Anthony, was sort of a neutral character. He had a few lines, some jokes but eventually his time was "cut short". Since then, he's been my MP character choice of preference. The sequel followed up with a green behind the ears rookie in the form of Benjamen Carmine. Sadly, the job really "got inside him" and he followed in his brothers graveyard. Now, Clayton is actually giving me reason for hope. I love him. He's a wise ass and a bad ass which is essentially a damn good mix. Yet I still feel he deserves to die. Be with his brothers is what I say. But so far, no casualties...well, major team casualties anyway.
Welcome (Back) To Horde Mode (2.0)
In this light, they've done it again!! Horde mode was surely one of the most popular game modes to emerge from this franchise and they honestly improved 110%! Much like before, with all your MP preferences, you choose your default character, automatic and secondary weapon with skins. I decided to roll with Anya, Casual Lancer with Crimson Omen Skull Skin and Haze Skinned Gnasher Shotty. The shotguns are STILL the Epic beast destroyers if you're quick with your Active Reloads.
The mode is based around "Loot" in a sense but more-so about true Defense. Not just bottlenecks, choke-points or fallback spots. Everyone starts with $1000 spending and can put up:
Barbed/Razor Wire
Spike Strips
Turrets
Decoy Cutouts
Command Posts
and much more. You earn $$ for kills and progression and it evens out nicely. You're rarely left "broke" and helpless. Some changes come in picking up items. Instead of just tapping X, you have to hold Y. This is also present in performing Executions wheras the previous game just did A, B, X, Y with every weapon. Some of the new weapons are the Digger which is a groundhog boomshot (yes, it's as awesome as it sounds), Incendiary Grenades and Silverbacks which are essentially Power Loaders from Aliens but with Turrets!
You have to spend money on almost everything between rounds, which also builds up challenges and unlocks skins/characters. This goes for weapons, ammo, repairs and building. A nice addition is the option to Buy Your Life Back if one player dies. It's a hefty $1500 for the first 10 waves but it obviously increases as the difficulty goes on.
"RAWWWR"
Beast Mode. This has been the highlight of hype since announcement. It is and it isn't Horde with the Locust. It is similar with money except you're spending money on your Class type.Your first set is pretty basic and gets better and better as you progress:
Wild Ticker - A non explosive Ticker with melee attacks
Ticker - Walking land mine. You must be RIGHT NEXT to heroes to at least down' em. Stranded go down easily.
Wretch -A leaping little clawed monkey. Dangerous in packs.
Drone - Locust drone with simple weapon loadout - Lancer, Shotty, Pistol.
Butcher - Cleaver wielding behemoth
The more you go on, much more intricate and better classes unlock:
Corpser -Sadly, it's not the gigantic spider-like beast but it's a mini-version that's just as strong and can regen health.
Boomer - There's even a type with the Digging Boomer!
Berserker -As cool as it is...wait for campaign!
Beast Rider -As much as you hated them last game, now they're your best friends!
Rockworm -Underrated powerhouse that is close to invulnerable.
The mode is pretty much Wipe Out 12 Waves of COG which we've done multiple times and can be quite the challenge. Team effort is essential to fly through this bad boy and is chaotically fun.
Overall, the game is immensely impressive and is living up to it's hype. I'm honestly not too fond of the Retro Lancer's firing rate but the ramming effect is surely satisfying. While I've only played a few Private Matches due to my lack of interest in Public MP, it seems to be a little more balanced aside from the Shotgun bonanza. Maps are pretty decent and semi-reminiscent of old maps. Splitting your buddies ribcage open with a rusty chainsaw has never been better.
So break out your battery packs Milkmen because I'm expecting the lot of us to have the title by friday for a friendly and tetanus filled Game Night.
Gear Up and Move Out Soldiers!

Comment by Flibbity Floid on September 22, 2011 at 1:58pm LOL I was just sayin' bro. You're awful verbal when it comes to your conquests. My boy Mikey was like that. He'd get his then hang out with me a few hours later standing there all glowing. Then he'll be a dick and get right in my face and be like "Smell my nose!".
I used to jab him in the throat when he did that lol.

Comment by Flibbity Floid on September 22, 2011 at 1:08pm I don't get bent out of shape at all. It's just that when I call you fat...I'm pretty justified in the result being true. If you want me to post transcripts and verbal accounts that I got laid a few weeks ago...I would. Pics too if I had 'em.
If I got Tubbsy about it, you'd be getting rants galore akin to your weight.
Just sayin'
Comment by Flibbity Floid on September 22, 2011 at 12:40pm *smh* Ironically, you and the virginator have too much in common in reusing the same joke over and over. I should post how I verbally raped the fuck out of his patoot.
And to a dismaying light, it's false.
At least the extent of "foreplay" with me isn't trying to find my penis in a sea of fat folds. It's like trying to find the nub in the silly putty. Ewwwwwwww!!!
