Apparently the true Zombie Apocalypse is a ways off or may never even happen. Bummer indeed. In the light of Max Brooks and his loverly survival guide, I've taken the liberty to (verbally) hold your hand and guide you through the Reach Zombie Living Dead and probably earn you a few Zombie Killing Sprees, Hells Janitors or Hells Jerome.
Living Dead is a pretty simple mode that requires elegance, reflexes and teamwork if you truly want to survive. Survive meaning make it to the end of each round of which there are three per game. As I said, it's simple and the description is displayed right in front of you as you spawn:
Survivor: "Defend Yourself From The Zombie Infection". You will spawn with the rest of the surviving Spartans with about a dozen or so Shotgun rounds and pistol rounds. That's it. No other weapon is used aside from zombies with Energy swords and you cannot pick them up.
Zombie: "Braaaaaaains!" - Generally preceeded by an announcement of "New Zombie!", obviously you spanwn as the zombie. With snot-pale colored armor and an Energy sword as your only weapon, the zombies movements change depending on the game type. Originally there were 2 until a new addition came in and it seems they have gotten rid of one of the older modes. I'll list them all:
Infection: The standard Survivor vs Zombies mode. All the above rules apply except zombies have the Evade Leap which covers significant ground and can get you right into your targets nose if you're lucky. Survive until you're the last man standing and then...well, shit your pants if you have the time! You're doubtfully surviving the whole shabangabang.
Safe Havens: Supposedly completely gone from matchmaking (i have not seen it in over a month), the differences in this game were A) The zombies were incredibly tougher! It definitely takes more than a shotgun blast to take 'em down if not a headshot. B) The survivors have a Safe Haven to get to that will last about 10 to 15 seconds. Zombies can enter freely but will be completely vulnerable as Survivors will be invincible.
Alpha Zombies: Assumingly the replacement for Safe Havens, Alpha Zombies follows more along Infection in it's a kill or be killed game type. The Zombies have traded the Evade Leap for the Run ability BUT whoever spawns as the Alpha Zombie (Red) has unlimited running. The Last Man Standing gets the terrifying ordeal of having an extra shield. So instead of a quick and embarrassing swarm of zombies taking their swipes in victory, the extra few seconds of agony could result in a lucky and dirty getaway. Unlikely as I've yet to see it.
Maps & Strats
There are a decent amount of maps for the Living Dead playlist. Most of them appear on the original sets of maps and people tend to pick a select few mainly for stellar spots to camp out. Most have been fixed but I will point out the "glitched" spots as well. Starting with the best and easiest to score on (giggidy):
Sword Base: This one has become a real favorite. One of the huge negatives is the chance of betrayers. I'll get to that in a moment. Anyhoo, Survivors tend to start along the side opposite of the Elevator Room if not on that walkway. On the ground floor, opposite end and side of the room of the Elevator room is a tunnel that leads to a vent up to the Shotgun Room. This is the best spot to hang out in terms of full peripheral and team cover. Although, assholes love to just stand next to you and 12 guage your face causing you to respawn somewhere else and most likely be infected from there. If the group is rather large, try to crouch when sitting up front to avoid team shooting. Secondly, line up for a standing teammates headshot and you should be ready to roll from there. Thirdly, Do NOT be afraid to punch! You'll be surprised on how many times this can (and could have) save your life!
Your next best spot is across the hall in the direct opposite room of the tunnel. Once in and up the ramp, there is a Navigation Room just before the Elevator Room. This room is a bit cluttered but it's another that's cut off from all but one side. However, swarming of zombies WILL become problematic. There is also a giant "window" area but it is VERY accessible from almost every angle except below.
*Glitch* - Outside of the tunnel is a blue grav lift. If you run towards the wall closes to the tunnel, you can get on the ledges. The top one was the original glitch and was NIGH easy to get to. I've seen players rack up 50 zombie kills from said spot but thankfully, it is now "outside of the map".
(Tunnel)
Pinnacle: Or as I call it, The Bowl. This map sports a nice open middle area and two "towers" on each end. There is a third area that just loops around to the true tower. The best place is in the tower itself. It is VERY easy to be infiltrated but setting up defense points at the right spots will keep you safe. Anyone on top should take care of anything in front of the tower while the rest cover the other sides and the lower door. Other than that, one or two people can hide halfway on the smaller tower. It's pretty hard to notice if the zombies are distracted.
*Glitch* - There used to be a way to get completely behind the lift where the Rocket Launcher would be. I've not seen anyone there for a long time.
(The tower 1st floor entrance)
Powerhouse: This is the other Beta map along with Sword Base so it should be vaguely familiar. A popular fallback point is on one end against the cliff edge. Zombies only come from one (wide) way and they LOVE to jump around here so be ready! There's a little broken bridge which would be a great suicide spot. The only other somewhat perfect spot is in the shower on the opposite side of the cliff. It's below the PC room and it's a tight squeeze so try to keep the party light.
*Glitch* - There used to be a way to get over the broken bridge but apparently the RTB counter starts once you jump off it anyway.
(The Shower)
(Cliff Edge)
The Cage: The Cage is a large "floating" walkway, if you will, with a tower on one end, a "shack" in the middle and an open looping point one the other end. There is a launcher and ramped area on the fourth side but the map is one giant layered circle. If you can get on the shack quick enough, you'll survive so long as they're not coming from both sides in droves. A favorite spot is on the looping area having one person watch the left and the other the right. The tower is a good spot but I feel it's too isolated. Once one Zombie gets wind of you, it's unlikely they give up in pursuing the trapped rat.
*Glitch* - Getting on any of the shacks or towers is no easy feat but they sadly seem "legit".
(Looping end)
Boardwalk: Boardwalk is a courtyard styled map with a ground floor and outside area. The ground floor is just a basement looking maze while the upstairs sports a few platformy areas. One of the best is the back room with the "patio" by the Flag. Most people hold up against the wall or in the room itself behind the stairs for blockage. You can hide in the other "tower" area but you are uber exposed. Bring a partner.*Glitch* - One of my favorites to be a zombie on b/c I can get over to this spot easy peazy. It's just before the stairway up to the "patio". Just turn around to see a large plate glass window and a thin ledge. Jump around the window and just move to the end.
(Caught a zombie waiting to get dudes at the Glitched spot)
Countdown: Countdown is tiered indoor kind of facility. There are a bunch of doorways and hallways pretty much all intercombining and a few lift areas. Everyone spawns against the wall opposite of the main lift which has 3 shafts to the top level. The other 2 lifts are in the center-ish and lead to the top level on a walkway which would normaly host the Energy Sword. Chances are, you want to stay against the spawn wall until the first wave is dead. Then make a mad dash for the lifts in the back and take refuge outside on the platform. There's nowhere to go but down so save that last bullet!
*Gltich* - None that I'm aware of
(spawn wall)
Asylum: Asylum is a "Base" styled map in that both sides are identical in terms of the teams bast (walkway-platform area) and a small open "arena" area in the middle. Hiding in the Sniper Nests of the HQ's can be good spots but staying against the wall with the team covering peripherals seems to be the best bet. There are a set of rocks where the zombies usually spawn but if you can get them spawning on the opposite side, these make great hiding spots.
*Glitch* - There was one major spot along the wall with the big rocks jutting out. One would be able to hop up until the Return To Battlefield message would pop. Run along the cliff edge and drop into the little nook and you'd be safer than Tubbs at a Slut Bonanza (untouched). However, this glitch HAS been fixed. The only other two which are still easy to get to are along the opposite edge. One is on part of the walkway turning into the main arena and the other is around the hiding rocks area I mentioned.
(Spawn point)
Well there ya have it. The images won't give you a precise location on the spots but you'll have an idea. If not, run on over and join a gamenight and get your Zombie Shank on!

Cliff Edge was me and Rune. Rune has the Yellow & Blue armor with the MP Helmet. The one of us on the Cage loop was from the other day. It was shortly after the match when you were a zombie 3 times in a row.
